Fabricated Security Gate Installation for a Cobham High Street Restaurant

Rear access points are often the weakest part of a commercial property's security, and high street premises are particularly exposed. Narrow service yards, shared access routes and out-of-hours deliveries all create opportunities for unauthorised entry. For one restaurant on Cobham High Street, securing this rear area became a priority, and SERV Contracts was brought in to design and install a solution.

Client Type

Commercial — restaurant premises, Cobham High Street.

Location

Cobham, Surrey.

The Challenge

The client needed to secure the rear of the property, an area used for deliveries, waste storage and staff access, without restricting the day-to-day movement required to run the business. The site sits directly alongside a shared service road, with a neighbouring commercial unit close by, so the gate also needed to sit neatly within the existing boundary line and integrate with the surrounding brickwork and fencing.

The Solution

SERV Contracts designed, fabricated and installed a bespoke double-leaf steel security gate, manually operated, finished in black. The gate was set into a levelled steel track at ground level and fitted tight against the existing brick pier, giving a secure, close-fitting barrier across the full width of the rear access without altering the surrounding structure.

Products Installed

  • Bespoke fabricated steel security gate, twin-leaf, vertical bar design

  • Black powder-coated finish

  • Ground-level steel channel track

  • D-shaped pull handles and a drop bolt locking mechanism to both leaves

Benefits Delivered

  • A secure, physical barrier to the rear of the premises, reducing the risk of unauthorised access

  • A manually operated gate suited to the site's day-to-day access needs, with no reliance on power or automation

  • A design that sits cleanly within the existing boundary and brickwork, avoiding a bolted-on appearance

  • Straightforward, low-maintenance hardware that the client's team can operate without training

Interesting Technical Details

The gate track was set into the ground and finished with a waterproofing detail along the base, protecting the fixings from standing water, a small addition that makes a meaningful difference to the long-term condition of a ground-level track in a busy service yard. Both leaves were fitted with a drop bolt and pull handle rather than a single central lock, allowing either leaf to be opened independently, which is a practical detail for a site handling deliveries as well as pedestrian access. Before handover, the installation team carried out a full finishing check on site, touching up the paint finish and confirming the gate operated smoothly on both leaves.

Outcome

The finished gate now provides a secure, good-looking barrier to the rear of the restaurant that fits naturally into its surroundings. The client has a durable, manually operated solution that protects the property outside trading hours without adding complexity to daily operations.

Why Choose SERV Contracts

SERV Contracts designs and fabricates security gates, barriers and metalwork for commercial and industrial premises across London and the South East. Every gate is built to fit the site it's going into, not adapted from a standard template, and every installation is finished and checked on site before we consider the job complete. Whether it's a single rear-access gate or a full site security package, our approach is the same: understand the access challenge first, then engineer a solution that solves it properly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you supply manual gates as well as automatic ones? Yes. Not every site needs automation. Where a manually operated gate suits the access pattern better, as it did here, we'll recommend that instead of adding unnecessary cost or complexity.

Can you match a gate design to an existing boundary or brickwork? Yes, our gates are fabricated to fit the specific opening and surrounding structure, rather than fitted from stock sizes.

How long does a gate installation like this typically take? Timescales depend on the site and design, but a straightforward rear-access gate of this type is generally a short, low-disruption install once manufacturing is complete. We'll confirm timings during the site survey.

Do you work with restaurants and other high street commercial premises? Yes, we regularly work with commercial property owners, main contractors and businesses along high streets and in town centres, where access is often tight and existing structures need to be worked around carefully.
